The Volunteer Experience at Tiziri
My name is Malou, and I have been volunteering at the Tiziri surf camp for the past two months. Although half of my time here has already passed, I find myself wishing I could stay indefinitely if it weren’t for my academic commitments.
As a volunteer, I have various responsibilities. One of my primary tasks is conducting daily one-hour yoga sessions. Additionally, I capture memorable moments of guests while they surf, as I share in their triumphs and encourage them through the inevitable falls. I often just listen to music while taking pictures, enjoying the sun and dancing a bit.
In the evenings, after dinner, there is a sense of fulfillment for me, as we review the day’s captured moments taken while surfing. Witnessing the genuine happiness of people cherishing these lasting memories is truly rewarding.
Beyond these responsibilities, I also have the opportunity to assist in the kitchen, gaining insights into Moroccan cuisine. However, my volunteer experience extends beyond tasks. I can surf almost every day, explore Tamraght, Agadir, Paradise Valley, Thagazout,….. and spend quality time with guests and fellow team members. The workload is round about 4 to 5 hours a day. The constant support from the community here is immense, providing guidance whenever I have questions or feel lost.
This form of travel has given me an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in one place, becoming an integral part of its daily life and creating countless wonderful and unforgettable memories. I feel like I’m in a different world, experiencing a sense of freedom, peace, and gaining new perspectives on life.
In addition to learning to surf, teaching yoga, and honing my photography skills, I’ve also had the chance to connect with numerous people, understand a new country, learn a new language (whereas learning is maybe not the right word, I am tying my best to know at least a few words and communicate as good as possible), and appreciate a different culture. This time spent here is incredibly fulfilling, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
I am now looking forward to further 5 weeks of working here!:)
